Building In The Open

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything and now I’ve decided to pick this up again.

One of the things that always stumped me was finding the appropriate content to write about. I had heard of building in the open before and always thought it interesting so I decided to try my hand at that.

I have many reservations around doing this, especially because I tend to start things and never finish them or maintain them. My more than sporadic posting is proof of that.

On the other hand, I want to build something I find useful to myself, and maybe to others and share that somehow and connect with fellow programmers that way. It is the most rudimentary form of friendship, after all, a shared interest in things.

I’ll be sharing more details in later posts, but I intend to end this cycle having put an RSS feed reader out there for people to use. Well, mostly for my own benefit because I wanted something on the web, that was a PWA and that felt like using NetNewsWire, which is basically my only reference on the matter since I never bought the paid ones.

In fact, should anyone know of good RSS feed readers that are open source, do let me know, as I’d like to check them out.

Plus, a feed reader is a good opportunity to learn about a few things I’d like to have more experience with from the side of the builder like background jobs and how to get a simple HTML page to update in real time. More on that in the future.
